Catherine Boyd

Oak Park native, Catherine Boyd, painter gone fused-glass designer creates pendants combining both color and shape to create a beautiful aesthetic. With Boyd’s background in painting in relation to her current work in glass, it is said her designs resemble her much larger-scaled paintings.

Boyd begins her design process for glass pendants with sheets of fusible glass and cuts them in to various sized and shapes. She has several types and sizes of dichroic glass strips and scrap pieces that she uses to add the “sizzle” to many of her designs.

“I pick and combine color and shape combinations from stacks of glass pieces into an ultimate pendant design, always giving thought and consideration to composition.”

Boyd has a Bachelor of Science from Illinois State University in Marketing, and two and a half years of Interior Architecture courses from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
